10 Days to Building Your Life List: Day 1
August 23, 2007
Make use of others’ lists… but be wary
You can use my example list to get over any writers block, but don’t expect to complete your list of the next 40 years in one day, or even one sitting. There are a lot of lists available online, but I recommend creating your own first. Making your list based on someone else’s is kind of like taking a vacation while simultaneously reading the travel book.
Read previous articles in this series:
The Local Bookstore
If you have the time, spend a lazy Sunday (or your lunch break) in the travel section of your local Borders or Barnes and Noble. There are some great travel and adventure books you can browse. It’s also fun to flip through one of those huge coffee table books with awesome photos (ie Tuscany or Patagonia).
Lists found online
Here is a simple site that offers you a chance to see a list and also to check off the ones that you’ve already accomplished.
Maxim Magazine posted a humorous list with a different twist that’s worth a read.
Outside Magazine posted an extreme list. Hopefully some of these will make some of our lists in some form or another.
Online Communities (social networking for life lists)
While researching things for my list and my, I came across a site called SuperViva. It’s a very thorough Life Lists and goal tracking site that uses social networking as part of its core system. Their mantra is “Live a Full Life.” Sounds good to me! They have a pretty large collection of inspirational articles and stories to feed from, and of course the whole community is there for support.
I also ran across a site called Life Tango. It’s a social networking site based around daily, weekly, monthly, yearly and life-long goals. The brainstorming function they offer is pretty cool. You won’t come up with 100 things in one try (I think I came up with 14 initially), but it can be easily expanded with the use of their community and public goals. LifeTango is very easy on the eyes, and there aren’t too many moving parts or distractions.
**I will discuss both of these sites more next week**
As you can see, there are many lists and resources to get you started. Just make sure you are making your list based on what YOU want to do. This will help keep you motivated and help you take action.
